Sign-ups close soon!

  • Mar. 16th, 2016 at 8:11 PM
Sign-ups will close afternoon GMT on Friday! Here's the link for those of you who haven't signed up yet. (As a reminder, if you signed up into the old collection, you will have to re-do your sign-up, this time with checkboxes for fanwork type!)

In the meanwhile, please check that your AO3 account is associated with an e-mail account that you read; we may have to contact you if you're unmatchable. If you can, look to see whether you could write for any additional fandoms or characters to minimize the delay – we're aiming to send out assignments by Monday, but if everything runs swimmingly, we might send them out earlier.

Oh, and recruit all your friends into the party!

Space Swap sign-ups are open (again)!

  • Mar. 5th, 2016 at 12:03 AM
collection | letters post | tag set

The collection is open! (Thanks,[personal profile] morbane!) This time, you'll have ticky box options on requesting and offering different types of fanwork. I've also set the requests to be visible, so that people get to see who's requesting what, and alter their sign-up based on that information. People who signed up in the previous collection still have their prompts there, and can copy and paste to the new collection.

Current opinion leans toward pushing back all future deadlines by a week. Does anyone object?

New collection, not yet open

  • Mar. 4th, 2016 at 10:50 PM
Based on community feedback, we've decided to remake the collection. Say hello to the new collection!

Sign-ups are not yet open; we're currently sacrificing goats to AO3 in an attempt to get the fanwork type selection to work in a satisfying matter. It's not a subcollection of Space_Swap yet due to collection ownership sheanigans, but that should get sorted out soon.

In the meanwhile, do you think the current schedule for everything post-signups is still workable, or would you like for everything to be pushed back a week?

Fanwork Type Matching

  • Mar. 3rd, 2016 at 9:10 PM
Hey guys, Space mods here.

It has recently been brought to our attention that we have missed off the option to offer or request certain types of fanworks on the sign up sheet.
To be honest, we did not realise this was something that had been done in the past and thanks to those who brought it to our attention.

Now this leaves us at an impasse, there are two choices and we wanted to open this to the group.
1 - We leave it as it is. You make whatever you can and accept whatever the other person can make.
2 - We start the sign up period again with a new sign up sheet including the option to select fanworks. This would cause at least some delays in the schedule.

What do you guys think?

Requests Summary & Misc Clarification

  • Mar. 1st, 2016 at 4:08 PM
To start off, a bit of clarification of the rules:

Do prompt for fic, art, and vids. Your assigned creator is the one who ultimately decides what type of fanwork you'll receive.

You are guaranteed to receive a fanwork that contains the fandom and characters you requested. Relationships, prompts, and the like are optional details and thus optional, but don't be an asshole. Avoid stated triggers.

Would people like to have the Requests Summary made public after sign-ups have closed? I have taken a liking to the idea, but does anyone else have an opinion?

Dear Spacer

This is where you can post your Dear Spacer letter!

As we all know, it's not all that hard to exceed the space for prompts that AO3 gives us. Some of us (looks guiltily at self) also really like writing letters. And hey, who doesn't want to write a letter with the title Dear Spacer? Link your letter in the comments!

For consistent formatting, let's use this as the base of our comments:

AO3 name:
Letter:
(Fandom 1): Character A, Character B
(Fandom 2): Character C
(Fandom 3): any

(expand as necessary)

Sign-ups open 18:20 GMT!

  • Feb. 26th, 2016 at 8:01 PM
collection | letters post | tag set

We'll be running this along typical exchange lines: participants will sign up with requests and offers, will be matched via AO3, and will receive an assignment. By signing up, participants agree to make a fannish creation for their assigned participant. In turn, someone will make a fannish creation for them.

When signing up, you will need to request at least 3 fandoms, and can request up to 8. You'll also need to offer at least 3 fandoms, and can offer up to 10. For each fandom, you can request for 1 to 4 nominated characters, or "any". For each fandom, you must offer to write 2 to 8 of the nominated characters. You can also offer 'any'.

Franchise wrangling & misplaced characters

  • Feb. 23rd, 2016 at 4:45 PM
Hello Spacers!

As of now, the tag set is only waiting on two fandoms finished, so it's time for the "is anything misplaced" check. If you spot a character who's misplaced or duplicated, shoot us a comment.

There are several multi-installment franchises and the like in the tagset. Are Gundam, Star Trek, and Star Wars (and any multi-installment things I may have missed) split up correctly?

The lovely [personal profile] taichara has helped with splitting up the Gundams, but I might've missed something. Is the current split satisfactory?

Based on my limited experience with Star Trek, the fandoms seem to be correctly divided, but characters may still be in the wrong place.

With Star Wars, the split is into the Original Trilogy, Prequel Trilogy, The Force Awakens, and All Media Types, plus spin-off media. Should some of these be consolidated?

Nomination Clarification

  • Feb. 13th, 2016 at 7:59 PM
(link to the tag set)

Do these fandoms contain space? Wikipedia etc have not been clear, and I would like for the nominators to clarify:
Only a few left! There'll be a franchise wrangling post up later today.
  • Earthian approved
  • Legend of the Blue Wolves approved
  • World of Warcraft approved
  • Final Fantasy XIII Series approved!
  • Gundam 00F approved!
  • Lunar Chronicles - Marissa Meyer approved!
  • Predators (2010) approved!
  • Robotech Masters approved!
  • Robotech: The Macross Saga approved!
  • Transformers: Beast Wars approved!
  • Young Wizards - Diane Duane approved!
  • Games of Command - Linnea Sinclair approved!
  • Predator (1987) approved!
  • Cyborg 009 approved!
  • DC Animated Universe approved!
  • DCU (comics) approved!
  • Ame-Comi Girls – is this separate from DCU (comics)? separate
Nominations are still open!

Characters:
For Gundam Wing, you have nominated Scheherazade, Snow White, Tallgeese, and Tallgeese Heaven. Are Scheherazade and Snow White characters in Gundam Wing, and are Tallgeese and Tallgeese Heaven different people? Is Scheherazade the mythic Scheherazade? Characters are Scheherazade (Gundam), Snow White (Gundam), Tallgeese and Tallgeese Heaven.
For Battlestar Galactica, you've nominated Gaius Baltar and Head Baltar. Are these different characters? Two different characters.
For Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, one of the nominated characters is Mirror Tuvok. Does he belong here, or should he be in Star Trek: Voyager instead? In DS9.
For Ame-Comi Girls, is Kara Jor-El a character, or is it simply a misspelled version of Kara Zor-El? A separate character.

We'll go through the Gundam series and attempt to split it up into the subseries correctly, but we're working against AO3, it seems, so if you spot a flaw in it, do notify us.

Nominations are open!

  • Feb. 8th, 2016 at 9:29 PM
Space Swap is a multimedia exchange for space fandoms of all sorts, including television series, movies, and books. The only criterion for a fandom to be eligible is that it somehow be related to SPACE.

As with past years, we'll be running this along typical exchange lines: participants will sign up with requests and offers, will be matched via AO3, and will receive an assignment. By signing up, participants agree to make a fannish creation for their assigned participant. In turn, someone will make a fannish creation for them.

Everything is going to be staying pretty much the same despite the change in mods. The only slight difference is we will be allowing up to 8 Fandom Nominations instead of 6.

Nominations are now open! Here at this link: http://archiveofourown.org/tag_sets/1125

The Schedule for this year's exchange will be as follows:
Nominations: 8th Feb - 22nd Feb
Sign Ups: 26th Feb - 11th March
Assignments: 14th March

Welcome to Space Swap!

  • Feb. 6th, 2016 at 12:42 PM
Space Swap is a multimedia exchange for fandoms of all sorts (books to RPF to music videos to etc.). The one criterion for inclusion is that the fandom be related to SPACE.

We'll be running this along typical exchange lines: participants will sign up with requests and offers, will be matched via AO3, and will receive an assignment. By signing up, participants agree to make a fannish creation for their assigned participant. In turn, someone will make a fannish creation for them. You will need an AO3 account to participate.

We'll kick off the swap with a fandom recruitment phase in which everyone can wax poetic about their favourite space fandoms in the hopes of recruiting new fans. Following that we’ll hold nominations to get a set of fandoms for our swap, and then we’ll have sign-ups and be off and running!
Note on treats: They are very welcome, and don't have to to fulfil the minimum creation requirements that main gifts do.
