Nominations Instructions

  • Feb. 17th, 2017 at 6:30 PM
Noms are open!

Tags that do not conform to these instructions will not be approved.

Please disregard everything AO3 says on the "nominate" page. Do NOT choose the canonical versions of whatever tag you're nominating. Tags are NOT restricted to characters only. Thank you. (AO3 doesn't let mods adjust what's on the nominations page.) If you have questions, please ask!

Please check what was agreed for your fandom on the franchise wrangling post. Write the fandom's name based on what was decided there. If your fandom has not been discussed on the franchise wrangling post, use the AO3 canonical. Please avoid using "- All Media Types" tags. If you're nominating a character who's found in many canons, or a relationship with such a character, please add the fandom name in (brackets) after the name(s).

Franchise Wrangling

  • Feb. 10th, 2017 at 4:18 PM
Or: how do you want to subcategorize large franchises?

All Media Types? Into subfandoms? By time period? By location?

Make a thread for your canon (unless there is one already), and then argue out in the subcomments.

The end result of the threads on the 17th at 17:00 GMT (when nominations open) will be used to decide how nominations are approved.

Fandom recruitment post

  • Feb. 6th, 2017 at 12:39 AM
Apologies for the delay, some rather unexpected travel happened to me. (I'm safe and sound on the way home now!)

Anyway, here's the fandom pimping post. Tell us why your canon is the best! Here's a nice format you can use to make it easier for people to find stuff: (copypasteable below)

The canon: The canon's name
What: The medium – TV, book, anime, RPF, 5-minute (posters/music video/etc), ... – some idea of the length would also be good, is it one book/season/movie, or is it longer?
Where: where it can be found – is there a legal free download, is it on Netflix, an Amazon link, etc
Quick pitch: Give us a brief tagline! "Sentient ants get a space program", "Space Opera detectives chasing a priceless alien artwork", "Gritty asteroid mining RPG", ...
In-depth: Tell us all the reasons why it's awesome! (If you don't know where to start: Some indication on subgenre, outlook on the universe, scale of the plot, personality of the main characters, your favorite feature, or some interesting worldbuilding detail.)

Now, go forth and advertise and read the most space-y recs list this side of the galactic core!

Rules update, more stuff

  • Jan. 18th, 2017 at 6:51 PM
Consensus seems to be that we'll be going forward with character-relationship-worldbuilding tag matching and allowing original works, as detailed in the previous post, but we'll only lock things in at the end of the month, so please contribute! (We also made the dates more America-friendly. The exchange gets going in February.)

One question, however, didn't get any attention, so I'm reposting it:

How many fanwork types? We'll have fanfic and fanart, and perhaps fanvid and podfic, but is there anything else you would like to request or make? How should multimedia stuff be counted?
That is, we will have fanfic and fanart as requestable fanwork types. Should we have anything else? Fanvid? Podfic? (Where podfic would be either podfic an extant 1k+ fic that fits the specifications, or write and then pod a 500+ word original fic that fits the specifications.) Should we have meta as its own category?

Also, somewhat relatedly, what are your opinions on the minimum creation requirements? Ficwise, we'll keep it at 1k; do you feel that the other mediums' requirements are equivalent?

Space Feedback!

  • Jun. 4th, 2016 at 9:52 PM
While the exchange was successful (everyone got a gift!), we'd still like to get input to make it even better next year. We-the-mods have discussed it amongst ourselves, and here's a list of things where we'd like your feedback, should you have any. Of course, we may have missed something, so feel free to tell us any other improvements you might want.
  • How was the stuff creation time (8 weeks)? How about the other time intervals?
  • What did you enjoy? What did you think could be improved?
  • Any feedback on the (final) sign-up sheet?
  • How do you feel about DW vs LJ? (We had two LJ mods and one DW mod, and almost all the questions came in via DW. Is there a reason for this fundamental imbalance?)
  • Would a franchise wrangling post pre-nominations be good so that large megafranchises could be chopped up into sensible fandoms, rather than some subfandoms and then All Media Types? (*cough* Star Wars *cough*)
  • Should ExtraPenguin, long-term horse icon user, use a picture of the horsehead nebula as hir Space Mod icon, rather than the current picture of Earth?
Love, the mod team.

Pinch Hits of the Apocalypse, #9-10

  • May. 28th, 2016 at 11:23 AM
Due ASAP. Please, if you have time, try to make something for these participants. The collection will open when both of them have a gift.
EDIT: Both have official pinch hitters, though it would ease the mod's mind if there were treat-writers in the wings. :)

#9: CLAIMED – Dune, Dragonriders of Pern, Star Wars )

#10: CLAIMED – DCU, Star Trek: Voyager, The Next Generation, Enterprise, Smallville )

Post-deadline Pinch Hits #7 & 8

  • May. 24th, 2016 at 11:12 PM
A re-post. Deadline for this one is 26th of May, 18:00 GMT, or really, as ASAP as you can make it.
EDIT: Mod should learn to look at the right window.
EDIT: Thanks to our pinch hitters! That should be everyone, so now it's time to catch those typos, obsess over the title, and maybe contribute a treat. (Treats don't have to fulfil the minimum gift requirements.)

Post-deadline Pinch Hits #3-6

  • May. 21st, 2016 at 9:03 PM
The deadline for fics has come and gone. Some of you have been granted extensions, but there are four juicy pinch hits for any takers. (None anymore – thanks to all pinch hitters!) They're due on the 24th, at 18:00 GMT, but preferrably ASAP. To claim, comment with the number for the pinch hit you'd like to claim and your AO3. We'll reply to your comment should you have gotten it.

6 Days Left!

  • May. 15th, 2016 at 7:08 PM
Works are due on the  21st – that's 6 days from now. The deadline is 6PM (18:00) GMT, at which time I'll press "default all incomplete". Watch this space for any pinch hits. If you have any questions, or need an extension, now is the time to contact the mod team.

Treats may be added to the collection at any time from now until reveals (28th).

Happy creating, Spacers!

3 weeks left!

  • May. 7th, 2016 at 11:53 AM
Assignments are due on the 21st of May, which should be 3 weeks from now, if I've counted correctly. Some of you have already posted works (congratulations!), and the rest of you are hopefully well on your writing way. Don't hesitate to contact one of the mod team if you have concerns!

If you wish, here are some profound questions for you to ponder in the comments: Are you where you hoped you'd be on your assignment? Got an ending in sight? Which Shep is Best Shep: Paragon or Renegade? Which classic SF book is the best? Kirk or Picard? Which of Leia Organa's hairstyles is the most structurally ambitious? Are you planning on starting a treat?
