Franchise wrangling & misplaced characters

  • Feb. 23rd, 2016 at 4:45 PM
Hello Spacers!

As of now, the tag set is only waiting on two fandoms finished, so it's time for the "is anything misplaced" check. If you spot a character who's misplaced or duplicated, shoot us a comment.

There are several multi-installment franchises and the like in the tagset. Are Gundam, Star Trek, and Star Wars (and any multi-installment things I may have missed) split up correctly?

The lovely [personal profile] taichara has helped with splitting up the Gundams, but I might've missed something. Is the current split satisfactory?

Based on my limited experience with Star Trek, the fandoms seem to be correctly divided, but characters may still be in the wrong place.

With Star Wars, the split is into the Original Trilogy, Prequel Trilogy, The Force Awakens, and All Media Types, plus spin-off media. Should some of these be consolidated?

Nominations close tomorrow!

Nomination Clarification

Do these fandoms contain space? Wikipedia etc have not been clear, and I would like for the nominators to clarify:
Only a few left! There'll be a franchise wrangling post up later today.
  • Earthian approved
  • Legend of the Blue Wolves approved
  • World of Warcraft approved
  • Final Fantasy XIII Series approved!
  • Gundam 00F approved!
  • Lunar Chronicles - Marissa Meyer approved!
  • Predators (2010) approved!
  • Robotech Masters approved!
  • Robotech: The Macross Saga approved!
  • Transformers: Beast Wars approved!
  • Young Wizards - Diane Duane approved!
  • Games of Command - Linnea Sinclair approved!
  • Predator (1987) approved!
  • Cyborg 009 approved!
  • DC Animated Universe approved!
  • DCU (comics) approved!
  • Ame-Comi Girls – is this separate from DCU (comics)? separate
Nominations are still open!

Characters:
For Gundam Wing, you have nominated Scheherazade, Snow White, Tallgeese, and Tallgeese Heaven. Are Scheherazade and Snow White characters in Gundam Wing, and are Tallgeese and Tallgeese Heaven different people? Is Scheherazade the mythic Scheherazade? Characters are Scheherazade (Gundam), Snow White (Gundam), Tallgeese and Tallgeese Heaven.
For Battlestar Galactica, you've nominated Gaius Baltar and Head Baltar. Are these different characters? Two different characters.
For Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, one of the nominated characters is Mirror Tuvok. Does he belong here, or should he be in Star Trek: Voyager instead? In DS9.
For Ame-Comi Girls, is Kara Jor-El a character, or is it simply a misspelled version of Kara Zor-El? A separate character.

We'll go through the Gundam series and attempt to split it up into the subseries correctly, but we're working against AO3, it seems, so if you spot a flaw in it, do notify us.

Space Swap is a multimedia exchange for space fandoms of all sorts, including television series, movies, and books. The only criterion for a fandom to be eligible is that it somehow be related to SPACE.

As with past years, we'll be running this along typical exchange lines: participants will sign up with requests and offers, will be matched via AO3, and will receive an assignment. By signing up, participants agree to make a fannish creation for their assigned participant. In turn, someone will make a fannish creation for them.

Everything is going to be staying pretty much the same despite the change in mods. The only slight difference is we will be allowing up to 8 Fandom Nominations instead of 6.

Nominations are now open! Here at this link: http://archiveofourown.org/tag_sets/1125

The Schedule for this year's exchange will be as follows:
Nominations: 8th Feb - 22nd Feb
Sign Ups: 26th Feb - 11th March
Assignments: 14th March

Due date: April 12
Golive: approximately April 24
Reveals: May 1

Nomination clarification

  • Dec. 2nd, 2014 at 4:37 PM
I've been going through and approving some of the nominations and have a few questions on some fandoms I'm not familiar with.

A reminder that this exchange focuses on space-related fandoms. Our working definition is: "Some sort of intelligent beings in space at some point (before, during, or after canon) in a way that's significant to some aspect of the narrative."
"Significant to the narrative" is subjective and largely up to participants, but we hope people will keep the spirit of "SPACE" in mind. We do want people (of some sort) in space (at some point), and not just objects. So aliens yes; missiles and satellites, no.

These don't appear to be space-related fandoms (going by wikipedia - which I realize isn't always thorough).
If you nominated these, please let me know how it qualifies for space and/or if I've googled the correct fandom. If I don't hear back by the time nominations close, I'll go ahead and remove them.
Thank you!!!!

+ Homestruck - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homestuck approved
+ Adventure Time - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adventure_Time
+ Surge Concero - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ar_nosurge approved
+ Lionel Nimrod's Inexplicable World - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lionel_Nimrod%27s_Inexplicable_World
+ Kingdom Hearts - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingdom_Hearts (other than a reference to Final Fantasy tie-in, I don't see any space/galaxy/planet references on the wiki page?)
+ Rebuild of Evangelion | Evangelion: New Theatrical Edition - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rebuild_of_Evangelion

I've not rejected anything, if you see a rejection please check the tag set to see if a character name/fandom name was corrected. I had some trouble with DCU and Justice League & Justice League Unlimited (Cartoons) characters.

P.S. I've not touched any of the Doctor Who nominations yet as I have to review what we did with that last year. done!
All other pending nominations as of the time of this post have been approved.

Space Swap Two

  • Nov. 29th, 2014 at 4:19 PM
For an exchange with so many variables to be successful, I feel we need to have a similar number of signups as we had last year (which was 35). So I've been debating with myself about the poll results since yesterday -- it was a little lighter than I'd like. But I think we can go ahead and start nominations and see if we gain more momentum as we go along. Please feel free to advertise and spread the word. The more the merrier :)

[community profile] space_swap nominations are now open at AO3!

You can nominate up to four space-related fandoms, and up to four characters per fandom.

You'll need an AO3 account to participate. If you don't currently have an AO3 account, you can request one here.

Nominations are open until December 26th.

For more details about the exchange, check out our FAQ

And lastly, if you want to talk about your nominations to maximize character selections, feel free to use this post! You can list the fandoms and characters you've nominated, the ones you're thinking about nominating, and the ones you're hoping someone else will nominate for you because you just don't have room for them, but they're still awesome. You can also mention if you haven't used all your slots, and you're open to including another fandom/character.

If you have any questions, please let me know!

Space Swap Nominations Closed

  • Dec. 10th, 2013 at 11:55 PM
Hello, Space Fans!

It's past midnight in EST-land, which means nominations are now officially closed. We have 101 fandoms, and a whole lot of characters.

We've gone through and approved the nominations. We approved all of the fandoms nominated except for two:

* The Matrix (Movies)
* Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magika | Puella Magi Madoka Magica

We can't seem to find a space connection with these two fandoms. However, if the nominators (or other interested parties) want to explain how space fits in, please leave a comment! We're holding off rejecting them to give you a chance to talk to us. If we haven't heard from anyone by December 29th (the end of the dispute period), then they will be rejected.

We approved all characters in approved fandoms, except in the case of duplicate nominations. If your character was rejected, that's why.

You can see the whole tag set here.

Please take a look and tell us if we've missed anything (i.e., duplicate characters, etc.). Please note that some fandoms are uncategorized, so if it's not in the correct category, take a look in the uncategorized section.

I also have a question for the Doctor Who fans. We currently have Doctor Who in there three times: Old Who, New Who, and a general category that includes both. Would you like to leave it that way, or would you like us to keep the divide between Old and New? The current set-up means you'll be able to request and offer Old, New, or the joint category, but it also means that if you request the joint, you won't be matched with someone who only offered Old or New. If you have an opinion on keeping it this way vs. changing it, please leave a comment here.

Disputes close on December 29th, and sign-ups open on January 4th!

Nomination Coordination Post

  • Nov. 3rd, 2013 at 9:39 AM
By request, if you want to talk about your nominations to maximize character selections, make sure you're not wasting a slot nominating a fandom that someone else has already nominated, or just find other people to squee with, this is the place!

You can use this post to list the fandoms and characters you've nominated, the ones you're thinking about nominating, and the ones you're hoping someone else will nominate for you because you just don't have room for them, but they're still awesome. You can also mention if you haven't used all your slots, and you're open to including another fandom/character.

You'll be able to edit your nominations until we start approving them. We'll put up a warning post before we start the approval process, to give you time to finalize things.

Remember to check the LiveJournal post as well!

Participation in the coordination post is entirely optional.

Space Swap Nominations are Open!

  • Nov. 1st, 2013 at 8:35 PM
[community profile] space_swap nominations are now open at AO3!

You can nominate up to four space-related fandoms, and up to four characters per fandom. (We cut it back from six because we're hoping that will improve our odds of matching people up. The minimum for both requests and offers is three, so you won't be forced to request anything you don't want or offer anything you're not comfortable with.)

Please note that while we will definitely be matching on fandom and media, and will try to match on character, the final results are going to depend on what the sign-ups look like. But go ahead and nominate characters, and we'll see what we can do.

You'll need an AO3 account to participate. If you don't currently have an AO3 account, you can request one here. The waiting period is pretty short right now, so you should be able to get an account in plenty of time to nominate. If you run into problems, please let us know.

Nominations are open until December 10th.

Have fun!
