Letters!

This is where you can post your Dear Spacer letter!

As you might know, it's possible to exceed the space for prompts that AO3 gives us, or wish for formatting beyond what AO3 allows. Some of us also really like writing letters. And hey, who doesn't want to write a letter with the title Dear Spacer? Link your letter in the comments!

For consistent formatting, let's use this as the base of our comments:

As we all know, it's not all that hard to exceed the space for prompts that AO3 gives us. Some of us (looks guiltily at self) also really like writing letters. And hey, who doesn't want to write a letter with the title Dear Spacer? Link your letter in the comments!

Dear Spacer Letters

This is the collection post for links to "Dear Spacer" letters.

What is a Dear Spacer letter? It's a post you can make somewhere (your journal, Tumblr, Google docs, etc.) in which you elaborate on things you'd like to receive. General likes and dislikes in fic, general preferences in icons or vids, what you enjoy about a particular canon, specific prompt suggestions for your creator to work from, etc.

Dear Spacer letters are completely optional, but you're strongly encouraged to give your creator a starting point somewhere, either in a letter or in the description section of the sign-up form. (Or both, if you like!)

It's also optional for you as a creator to follow these extra details, but we really hope you'll avoid things identified by your recipients as triggers, squicks, or things they just don't enjoy receiving.

When writing a letter, please remember that this is a multimedia exchange. If you're requesting more than one medium, then please spare a thought for artists, podfic makers, meta writers, etc. and leave some prompts/preferences/info for them too. Also remember that if you request "other medium," your letter is where you can talk about what you hope to receive from that. Or anything you really don't want to receive.

You can see examples if you check out our previous year post. Once you've written your letter, you can drop a link (along with a list of requested fandoms, characters, and media) here.

Please feel free to spread the word and promote the exchange. The more the merrier!

This post has some excellent information about writing a Dear Author letter, much of which also applies to any sort of Dear Creator letter.

If you want to see some examples of Dear Author letters, check out the collection post from this year's Yuletide exchange.

If you like, once you've written your letter, you can drop a link (along with a list of requested fandoms, characters, and media) here.

(If, on reading the letters, you are so inspired by a prompt that you want to make something extra for that person, go ahead! The more space, the better. But if it's less than the minimum required to fulfill this challenge--which is totally fine as a bonus!--then we'd ask that you please hold off posting it until after April 20th so that we can make sure everyone has a full-size fill as well.)
