Franchise wrangling & misplaced characters

  • Feb. 23rd, 2016 at 4:45 PM
Hello Spacers!

As of now, the tag set is only waiting on two fandoms finished, so it's time for the "is anything misplaced" check. If you spot a character who's misplaced or duplicated, shoot us a comment.

There are several multi-installment franchises and the like in the tagset. Are Gundam, Star Trek, and Star Wars (and any multi-installment things I may have missed) split up correctly?

The lovely [personal profile] taichara has helped with splitting up the Gundams, but I might've missed something. Is the current split satisfactory?

Based on my limited experience with Star Trek, the fandoms seem to be correctly divided, but characters may still be in the wrong place.

With Star Wars, the split is into the Original Trilogy, Prequel Trilogy, The Force Awakens, and All Media Types, plus spin-off media. Should some of these be consolidated?

I am not an expert on Star Trek AOS, but you might want to check Surak (Star Trek). He is listed under Star Trek: AOS. According to Memory Alpha he only appeared in Enterprise in person and then a copy of him was in The Original Series.

T'Pring is a TOS character.

You have Tseng twice under Final Fantasy VII.

Kreia (Star Wars) and Visas Marr are under Star Wars Legends: Knights of the Old Republic when they should be under Star Wars Legends: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords.

Star Wars Original Trilogy you have Luke Skywalker twice, Leia Organa twice, and Anakin Skywalker twice.

Thanks! I've deleted the duplicates and moved the KOTOR II characters to their proper place. I'll look at the Star Trek characters tomorrow.

Cleante al-Faisal and T'Shael are characters from one of the Star Trek tie-in books. They never appeared in TOS or any other Star Trek series.

Yeah, I added them, and they were nominated under Star Trek: Various Authors

I'm impressed, I read that novel in middle school and I couldn't even remember its name until I looked it. I wonder if it's still in print.

Clicking about, it seems to not be in print anymore (but very cheap on amazon and ebay!) There are so many positive amazon reviews, which makes me happy.

After a dose of renaming magic, they are now displayed correctly. They can be found as Cleante al-Faisal (Trek Books) and T'Shael (Trek Books). Don't tell AO3, it might toss them back in TOS.

Looks all clear to me!

Raising my hand to say I'm not sure that CT-7567 | Rex and Xanatos (Star Wars) belong in Star Wars Prequel Trilogy.

I think CT-7567 | Rex migrated from Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008) - All Media Types, and Xanatos (Star Wars) is mainly from the Jedi Apprentice books and definitely not the movies so he probably belongs in Star Wars - All Media Types.

That is, unless you're going to actively separate out the Legends stuff from main continuity, in which case all bets are off and you're going to need a really, really thorough check through. You do have a Star Wars Legends - All Media Types fandom in the tag set so you could, but please please please don't!

Hi, this is Guinea one of the lj mods (I am just too lazy to log in)

I am going to fix Star Wars at some point over the next two days and personally I agree, sorting out legends will be complicated so I am just going to clump them under Star Wars: All Media Types. The Star Wars EU is far to broad and crosses over too much to sort out separate categories for everything.

Guinea, you're a saint for taking on the weirdness that is the SW tags!

Does that mean you're going to collapse all SW subfandoms into SW:AMT or will there still be some separation?

Guinea again: forgotten my dw password and in a hurry

Basically yeah. I am keeping out the films and clone wars but everything else is collapsed into AMT.

With requesting SW, if there isn't a category, for things like the books, Knight of the Old Republic, any of the Lego stuff, go for AMT and the relevant characters and write in your notes the details :)

So, we the mods have been bouncing around some ideas on how to best split Star Wars. Alas, we have encountered an AO3 bug of sorts, that prevents us from deleting tags.

Guinea brought up leaving the tags as-is. Would any of you have objections to it?

I think Noh-Varr has migrated into Runaways? He does appear in that comic as well, but I only nominated him under Young Avengers.
