Rules discussion
1.
Last year, we got people expressing the wish that Space Swap would match on relationships. Now, I mentioned my other project,
coronationceremony, and a matching experiment there. Since incorporating character, relationship, and worldbuilding tags was successful there, we're asking the community: do you want this? The nominations instructions I wrote for CC are here and if you really want to see my pontifications and justifications on the system, well, that's here.
The alternative: character-only AND matching, just like last year.
2.
Is this a space exchange or a space fandoms exchange? That is: should Original Works be in as a fandom to nominate tags to? (Something akin to how
chocolatebox does it?)
3.
How many fanwork types? We'll have fanfic and fanart, and perhaps fanvid and podfic, but is there anything else you would like to request or make? How should multimedia stuff be counted?
And, to reiterate, we're 100% OK with RPF. (Nom it under Space Traveler RPF.) We're 100% OK with space vehicles. (Nom it under Space Vehicles.) We're 100% OK with "5-minute fandoms" like the NASA Mars Explorers Wanted posters or the NASA Visions of the Future posters or songs about how everybody everybody wants to be a astronaut or how there's a starman floating in the sky, or space-themed music videos, or short films, or, well anything. If there's space, it's a-OK.

I think matching by relationships would be very nice. It could prevent stress of rigging your offers to match to the person who wants your OTP, and also make people more inclined to offer certain characters if you know you'll be able to write the fic the recip wants because you both are coming at the request the same way.
2.
I don't request/offer original fiction personally, but I don't see why it can't be allowed if the characters involve space somehow. Such as "Faster Than Light Technician, Captain of Starship" as possible characters. Maybe not "Renegade Princess" but "Planet Hitchhiking Renegade Princess."
For space exchange vs space fandoms, I was kinda wondering this myself since some fandoms nominated and requested are sometimes not really too big on outer space, but at the same time, I want to spread the fun not restrict the fun if that makes sense. I was wondering if the space aspect is more important than the fantasy/scifi aspect. For instance, the presence of outer space in Star Trek vs Doctor Who. Both qualify but outer space features in very different amounts for both.
2. Yeah, that's how we were thinking of doing it.
We're letting in slightly less spacey fandoms, since otherwise it becomes line-in-the-sand wanking where everyone loses, but I have considered making it so that all the characters(/relationships/worldbuilding) has to be of a space era. IIRC we had a problem last year with a fandom that was set over a large time span, where only one of the three nommed characters was from a space era and thus people couldn't offer it should they only want to offer space characters.
I'm definitely cool with original works.
2. If I sign up it would be fandom only for me, but ditto again that I see no reason not to allow other people options.
Other than that, I'm good! Looking forward to this again this year!
