Space Swap Nominations Closed

  • Dec. 10th, 2013 at 11:55 PM
Hello, Space Fans!

It's past midnight in EST-land, which means nominations are now officially closed. We have 101 fandoms, and a whole lot of characters.

We've gone through and approved the nominations. We approved all of the fandoms nominated except for two:

* The Matrix (Movies)
* Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magika | Puella Magi Madoka Magica

We can't seem to find a space connection with these two fandoms. However, if the nominators (or other interested parties) want to explain how space fits in, please leave a comment! We're holding off rejecting them to give you a chance to talk to us. If we haven't heard from anyone by December 29th (the end of the dispute period), then they will be rejected.

We approved all characters in approved fandoms, except in the case of duplicate nominations. If your character was rejected, that's why.

You can see the whole tag set here.

Please take a look and tell us if we've missed anything (i.e., duplicate characters, etc.). Please note that some fandoms are uncategorized, so if it's not in the correct category, take a look in the uncategorized section.

I also have a question for the Doctor Who fans. We currently have Doctor Who in there three times: Old Who, New Who, and a general category that includes both. Would you like to leave it that way, or would you like us to keep the divide between Old and New? The current set-up means you'll be able to request and offer Old, New, or the joint category, but it also means that if you request the joint, you won't be matched with someone who only offered Old or New. If you have an opinion on keeping it this way vs. changing it, please leave a comment here.

Disputes close on December 29th, and sign-ups open on January 4th!

Kid Loki actually isn't in the Marvel movies, only comics.

Re: Madoka Magica

It is not my nomination, but in it Kyubey is an alien who is collecting emotional energy from the girls to stop the heat death of the universe. This has been going on since cavemen.

re: Doctor Who
In the main Doctor Who one you also have Curse of Fatal Death and audio drama characters as well.

As for that... as a requester I kind of want Classic and New Who to stay together if only because it would make my request easier. But on the other hand you can only offer 2-8 characters and with classic, modern, audio drama and Curse of Fatal Death characters all mixed together I can't see many people offering any.

I do think that it should have everything together, everything all separated out or keep classic and new together and just separate the audio drama and Curse of Fatal Death characters into their own sections.

Re: Madoka Magica

I looked it up and didn't see anything mentioning being in space or space travel. The plot doesn't sound like it has a "space" element at all.

Hopefully the nominator will show up and let us know what they were referring to?

I'm letting skies weigh in on the Doctor Who part of your comment. :)

There is one single scene set in "space". It is not set in space and the only space travel is the implied Kuybey to Earth a very, very long time ago.

The info about Kubey being an alien is in his section.

Those are about all of the spacey things in the series.

I know there are other versions of Doctor Who nominated, but I'm not going to throw the parody or the audio drama into the main category. Those will stand on their own. (The parody because it has a different tone, the audio drama because I suspect a lot of people who watched the show never listened to the audio drama.)

I was hoping to get more feedback on the Doctor Who side, but unless I do, I think I'm inclined to respect the nominators' wishes and leave it as it is. So you'll be able to request from the combined category if you like.

Thanks for replying!

You currently have Fatal Death and audio drama characters in the overall category.

Sorry, I meant there was no way I was going to eliminate those categories. I might have collapsed new and old into one, but not Fatal Death and the audio. If I had collapsed new and old, I would have taken out Fatal Death and the audio to increase the chances of someone offering 'any' for the general Doctor Who (non-parody) TV category. Since it looks like new and old are going to remain separate categories as well, I'm inclined to leave it as is for the sake of people who may have been hoping to combine them in an unofficial crossover. Unless you have a reason you think I should separate them out?

Tags don't just appear under the fandom they were nominated for. They automatically appear in every fandom in the tagset that they are wrangled into by ao3. Because of that the curse of fatal death characters and at least one audio drama character are automatically in the main Doctor Who set.

Gotcha. The first time running an exchange on AO3 is a learning experience, isn't it?

In that case, I guess things will have to stay the way they are, unless people say they want to completely eliminate the non-specific Doctor Who category.

Okay, I've put up a new discussion post. Hopefully we'll get some more feedback on this!

Do you think that Fatal Death and the audio drama characters ought to be separated out? I haven't actually watched/listened to either--I'm going off of Wikipedia here--but on the face of it, as I said, I'm inclined to leave the combined category as is because I don't think many people will offer 'any' when thirty-four characters have been nominated, and this gives people a chance to request and offer crossovers within the canon. If you disagree, though, I'd like to hear it because I really don't know those two fandoms very well. I'm mostly a New Who girl, with a little Old Who.

For Star Trek: The Original Series you have Uhura and Sulu twice.

For Star Trek: The Alternate Original Series you have
Janice Rand, Kevin Riley and T'Pring despite not being in the movies.

Thanks!

I've removed the duplicate Uhura and Sulu.

Rand, Riley, and T'Pring officially wrangled tags in AOS, and I haven't been able to find a way to remove them from one particular fandom without removing them from all. I'll try to poke at it a little more.

Delete them and then readd them as Janice Rand (Star Trek: TOS), T'Pring (Star Trek: TOS), etc. and then manually associate them with Star Trek: The Original Series.
