Nominations Instructions

  • Feb. 5th, 2021 at 10:04 AM
Noms will start today 5 Feb at 19:00 EET (in your timezone) or a few minutes earlier and run until 14 Feb 19:00 EET (in your timezone).

Tags that do not conform to these instructions will not be approved.

Please disregard everything AO3 says on the "nominate" page. Do NOT choose the canonical versions of whatever tag you're nominating. Tags are NOT restricted to characters only. Thank you. (AO3 doesn't let mods adjust what's on the nominations page.) If you have questions, please ask!

Please check what was agreed for your fandom on the franchise wrangling post. Write the fandom's name based on what was decided there. If your fandom has not been discussed on the franchise wrangling post, use the AO3 canonical. Please do not use "- All Media Types" tags unless decided on the franchise wrangling post. If you're nominating a character who's found in many canons (eg. Superman), has many versions, or who has a very common name, or a relationship with such a character, please add the fandom name in (brackets) after the name(s). If nominating a crossover between two space canons, that is allowed; nom it under Crossover Fandom.

Nominating Characters
If you wish to receive a Thing centered on a character, nominate your character tag as Character: Character's Name. Some examples:
Character: Aria T'Loak
Character: Urdnot Wrex
Character: Miranda Lawson
Note: if you are nominating a RPG character whose gender one can choose (Shepard, The Jedi Exile, etc), please specify.

Nominating Relationships
If you wish to receive a Thing centered on a relationship between two or more characters, nominate your tag as Relationship: Character A/Character B if you want a romantic or sexual relationship between A and B, or as Relationship: Character A & Character B if you want a platonic or familial relationship between A and B. Alphabetize by surname. (Yes, it goes into the slot called "Characters". This is so that matching would work.) Some examples:
Relationship: Miranda Lawson & Oriana Lawson
Relationship: Urdnot Wrex/Garrus Vakarian
Relationship: Male Shepard & Liara T'Soni
Note: if you are nominating a ship containing a RPG character whose gender one can choose (Shepard, The Jedi Exile, etc), please specify.

Nominating Worldbuilding
If you wish to receive a Thing centered on worldbuilding, nominate your tag as Worldbuilding: A Clear Description. (Yes, it goes into the slot called "Characters". This is so that matching would work.) Some examples:
Worldbuilding: Citadel Sewage System
Worldbuilding: Source of Cerberus' Funding
Worldbuilding: Mass Relays.

If you are unsure of what you want – say you'd like something with Ashley Williams exploring the Citadel sewage system. Would you be happier with Ashley Williams doing something completely different, or with someone else looking through the Citadel sewage system? Or, if you don't know what to nom at all, go trawl through the fandom promotion post in search of inspiration.

If you find these instructions confusing, or otherwise wish to flail, please comment here or PM me. The tag set is HERE!

A question regarding crossovers
Can we nominate crossovers in the form of specific characters in specific 'verses if both the character and the 'verse are related to space? For instance Character: Martha Jones (DW) on Atlantis (SGA) or Character: River Tam (Firefly) in Star Wars Prequel Trilogy (SWPT)?

Alternatively, can we nominate in the form of "Character & any X character", for instance something like Relationship: Martha Jones (DW) & any Atlantis expedition member(s) (SGA) or Relationship: River Tam (Firefly) & any Jedi (SWPT)? Or should we pick specific characters for both/all?

Yes, this is allowed, though be sure that you really do mean ANY character in the group!

So, in several years of doing these kinds of exchanges I've never encountered this problem before: What do we do if the tag for our fandom doesn't exist yet? The other night I picked up and watched Breach, a 2020 Alien-esque movie that was released in December. I am now dying to read and write character studies for it, but since there's nothing out there for it I'm not sure how to go about nominating it for the exchange. Is it possible to nominate a fandom that hasn't been created yet?

Nominating new things is possible and allowed! Just manually type in the fandom name in the fandom slot – in this case, I think the appropriate tag format would be Breach (2020)

Would "any" nominations be acceptable? For example, can I nominate "Character: Any Babylon 5 Command Staff Member" under Babylon 5, or "Relationship: Any Destiny crewmember & Any Destiny Crewmember" under Stargate Universe?

Yes, "Any" nominations are acceptable, though please be sure that you really do mean ANY possible character or combination of them.

I have a question about Star Trek: Short Treks as a fandom. Under A03 it says that Star Trek: Short Treks will show up in Star Trek: Discovery's filter. For Space Swap, should nominations for worldbuilding and/or characters for Star Trek Short Treks be tagged as it is or go under Star Trek: Discovery?

Also, if I am nominating worldbuilding for the inhabitants of a planet (Star Trek: Discovery's Kaminar) but I am looking for worldbuilding specific to Kaminar as it appears in Discovery's Season 3 should I add the year that the season takes place? What would be the preferred wording?

Thanks so much!

Based on Wikipedia, Star Trek: Short Treks seems to be some sort of Discovery spinoff, in which case it'd go under Star Trek: Discovery.

I am looking for worldbuilding specific to Kaminar as it appears in Discovery's Season 3 should I add the year that the season takes place? What would be the preferred wording?
I'm not familiar with the canon, but would something like Worldbuilding: Kaminar (pre-Event) (where Event is whatever separates seasons 2 and 3) work? Nominating it under Discovery would automatically make it worldbuilding based on how it's shown in Discovery.

After I considered this a bit longer, I think Worldbuilding: Kaminar on its own would be fine as there are three iterations of the planet in the Discovery universe (mirror, season 1 and waaay into the future for season 3) and people might be interested writing about it in any of those iterations. Or I could also use Worldbuilding: Kaminar (post-The Burn), which is the event that happens in the future in season 3. Either one is fine with me! Thanks again!

Worldbuilding: Kaminar (post-The Burn) sounds like a good tag!
