Feedback post 2021

  • Apr. 19th, 2021 at 7:02 PM
Welcome to the 2021 feedback post!

1. Did the scheduling work? How did reveals on Yuri's Night feel? Relatedly, was there any scheduling overlap with other exchanges that adversely affected your participation?

2. The podfic requirements were amended this year to "1,000 words of an existing story podficced OR 500 words of a new story, written and podficced" (from the prior "500 words of a new story, written and podficced") – were you happy with this change, podficcers and people requesting podfic, or would you like further amendments?

3. Was there anything unclear in the instructions or rules?

4. Anything else you'd like to give as feedback?

See you in 2022!

I'm still confused about how much you want me to write. I wrote 500 words of a new fic. I got it returned with the instructions to put it up to 1000 words. I think I might have gotten the instructions for fic and for podfic confused. Or maybe got it confused with another challenge I was working on.

The minimum for fic is 1000 words. Is there a way the minima for each medium could be made clearer in the rules (pinned post, AO3 collection)?

The exchange was nice and straightforward for me as a writer! Had a blast (rocket pun totally intended) :D

I really like the variety available in this challenge (so many fandoms to choose from!) but I wonder if matching would be easier if instead of having to try and match pairings, you could just select characters? Similar to how it's done with other ficathons like Yuletide (where you have a fandom and the nominated characters listed underneath, and then you select a minimum of one character for requests, and two characters for offers).

Looking forward to 2022's Space Swap! :)

Hi! Sorry for the late reply, I was visiting family and didn't want to do mod stuff on mobile.

Space Swap used to be exclusively character matching (similar to Yuletide), but the majority of participants wanted to switch to relationship matching (similar to Chocolate Box), so I moved to a hybrid-ish system with worldbuilding included. While moving to a Yuletide-esque system would make the tagset smaller, it would not necessarily make matching easier, since if someone can write A/B and A/C but not B/C, under Yuletide matching, they have to pick whether they're offering A and B or A and C lest they match to a B/C shipper. With ship tags they can offer both.

If you want an experience like oldskool Trick or Treat (where one matches on a singular character, instead of all the characters the recip requested), I'm kicking off a character matching exchange after Space Swap's run.

Space Swap 2022's schedule post is going up soon!
